The photographs show polished jewelry stones documented in a way that is common for documenting museum collections. The originally miniature stones are extremely enlarged. As a result, crystalline structures and usage scratches, almost imperceptible to the naked eye, become visible. The stones can almost be read as signs. Combined into series, an abstract code language emerges, pointing towards the symbolic and energetic 'voice' of stones. Certain stones are attributed protective or healing properties, others have a personal meaning from the time they served as jewelry. Further addressed is the ambiguous human urge to experience authentic nature on one hand, and on the other to create and give shape according to our human esthetics.
