The brooches from the SUN-collection are part of the project Turnstone, in which I explore the places of origin of Dutch erratic rocks in Scandinavia. Beyond my personal fascination, I examine this geological phenomenon within a cosmic context. In short, the cycles of the ice ages - which facilitated the transport of these boulders—are, according to the current theory of Milanković, linked to the elliptical orbit of the Earth around the sun.
The photographs on the brooches show reflections of the sun, and are taken in the Åland archipelago, where many Dutch erratic boulders originate. The mother bedrock is visible in many of these images. The round shape of the brooches refers to shaman mirrors, which are used a.o. as windows into the spiritual world, to collect and store sky energy and the power given from the sun, moon and other stars.
