Loom is a sound instrument with two chimes tuned exactly 7.83 Hertz apart, the basic frequency of the Schumann resonance. This resonance - named after physicist Winfried Otto Schumann) - is caused by lightning discharges in the atmosphere, that propagate between the ionosphere and the Earth’s surface and remain trapped as standing waves. It is also called the heartbeat of the Earth. A small piece of erratic rock is integrated in the instruments frame, linking the planetary resonance with earthly matter. I developed a performance with this instrument together with my brother Johannes Eimermacher on the alto saxophone. The soundperformance can be understood as a dialogue with the altosax, that gives voice to the human breath.
